Water damage prevention
Activities of the Directorate include water-damage prevention, water-flow regulations on flatlands and hills, river regulations and improvement, protection against flood, hail and drainage water; local water quality management and water damage prevention, and also duties stemming from the Hungarian-Croatian Water Management Treaty.
The duties related with water damage prevention:
One of the main duties of the Directorate is to run and maintain infrastructure related with water (like dams and floodgates).
The authority performs the observation and documentation of waterworks, infrastructure and riverbeds on a scheduled basis, develops and maintains IT based records, and carries out hydrological activities with regard to water-damage prevention.
The Directorate performs coordinating activities so that the operation and development of state-, local government- and also privately owned water infrastructure’s are synchronized.
The Directorate develops the water-damage infrastructure as required and as allowed by resources.
According to the Hungarian-Croatian Water Management Treaty, the Directorate actively takes part in Hungarian-Croatian borderline-water negotiations.
On the predestined section of Drava, the determination of navigation routes is being done with the professional guidance of the Directorate.
This enumeration shows that water-damage prevention is a complex and continuous task which does not mean doing work only during times of flood.
